Chevrolet is recalling all of its current-generation sporty coupes and convertibles (some half-million cars in total) because of a problem with the foldout key fob. Apparently the possibility exists that the driver could hit his or her knee on the fob while it’s in the ignition, causing the engine to shut off. Chevy will fix the problem by replacing the fobs with regular keys. That’s what The Sleuth is hearing from the usual reliable sources. The iconic brand that was the portal to sports car ownership from the late-1940s to the late 1970s has been owned by SAIC of China since 2007. Since then it has been manufacturing MG-branded models-sedans, mostly for the home market as well as a small number of vehicles from MG’s old plant in England. It’s well known that SAIC would love to bring the MG brand back to North America, where it has been absent since1980, but many of loose ends must be resolved before that can happen. Not…

BMW has recently increased production of its 2014 i3 electric car to meet unexpectedly high demand, reports Bloomberg news service. The factory in Leipzig, Germany, that builds the i3 is now producing 100 cars per day, up from the earlier rate of 70. So far this year, BMW has built about 5.000 i3s, meaning it will produce about 20,000 – almost twice the number initially planned – before the end of this year if production continues at its current pace. The company has been pondering a production increase since at least last October, says the news gathering agency, when high…
