The brand owned by Geely of China has been selling cars in its home market for a couple of years. Lynk & Co plans to sell vehicles in Europe sometime in 2021, followed by a possible expansion to North America within a year or so. All models exported from China will use a new modular electric platform that will also underpin future Volvo electrics (Volvo is owned by Geely). The first to arrive, called the Zero EV, is a midsize hatchback with two electric motors (one for the front wheels and one for the rears) making a combined 536 horsepower.…
General Motors’ premium division will offer six-speed gearboxes as standard equipment in the CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing-branded models (10-speed automatics will be optional). The CT4-V Blackwing has a 400-horsepower turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6, while the CT5-V gets a 640-horsepower supercharged 6.2-liter V-8. Both Blackwings will go on sale in summer. The CT5-V Blackwing gets a 640-horsepower V-8 and a manual transmission. It’s one of the few remaining performance cars on the market that can be ordered with a manual. PHOTO: CADILLAC
Amongst a plethora of future gasoline-avoiding brands, Bollinger has revealed its model lineup in final form. The B1 utility vehicle and B2 pickup (both full-size, four-passenger units) are similar to earlier concept versions except for slightly taller bodies and rooflines that aid passenger and cargo space. The B1 and B2 come with an electric motor for the front wheels and one driving the rears. They produce a net 614 combined horsepower and 668 pound-feet of torque. Bollinger claims acceleration times to 60 mph from rest in about 4.5 seconds. Estimated range is a modest 200 miles. Prices for either model…
The automaker’s EQC utility vehicle, expected for early 2021, will now follow the full-size EQS flagship electric sedan. Also in the mix — most likely in late 2021 — will be the EQE sedan, which will look similar to the sleek-looking EQS, but on a smaller scale. It will likely share electric motors with the 402-horsepower EQC utility vehicle, but will have greater output. The three EVs will be followed by the EQA and EQB, which will be part of a 10-model electric lineup planned by Mercedes-Benz in the coming two to three years. The Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan will now…
The automaker is making a major commitment to battery-electric models across its Hyundai, Kia and Genesis vehicle brands. The Prophecy (current working title), which is built on Hyundai’s new Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), is expected to arrive in 2021 as a 2022 model. It will be followed by a derivative of the electric Hyundai Ioniq and a similar model from Kia. The E-GMP will form a major part of a new Genesis-brand compact utility vehicle that will be dubbed the GV60. The E-GMP’s 800-volt electrical system is claimed to provide quick vehicle acceleration, a 300-mile maximum range and a recharge…
Fans of the 1986 comedy “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” starring Matthew Broderick will enjoy the latest promo for LiftMaster garage-door openers. In it, the son of Ferris’s friend Cameron (Alan Ruck) and his buddy consider taking Cameron’s pristine Jaguar XKE for a joyride. You might recall a similar situation in the original movie when Cameron (with Ferris’s help, of course) borrows his dad’s Ferrari 250 GT California. In the commercial, however, Cameron remotely admonishes the boys via the LiftMaster Secure View’s smart monitor/speaker. Check out the 30-second spot (“Alan Ruck and LiftMaster show the perks of a smart garage”) at…
That’s what The Sleuth is hearing will happen when the automaker’s fourth-generation minivan arrives for the 2022 model year. Word has it the new name will be — drum roll, please — Carnival. The new body appears to be longer and wider than the current design with additional length between the front and rear wheels. Interior accommodations are said to include optional second-row chairs that can swivel to face the third-row bench seat. The Sedona’s 3.3-liter V-6 with 276 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque will be replaced by a 3.5 rated at 290/262. The Carnival will be front-wheel-drive and…
For 2022, the automaker’s rear-wheel-drive BRZ comes with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine packing 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. It replaces the current 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 205 horses and 156 pound-feet. The new engine makes 11 percent more horsepower and 17 percent more peak torque. Unfortunately, the BRZ won’t be available with the 260-horsepower turbocharged 2.4 that’s standard in the Ascent utility vehicle and optional in the Legacy sedan and Outback wagon. Still, the BRZ’s modestly redesigned body and interior (likely shared by the similar Toyota 86l) should pique the interest of both new and current fans. The redesigned…
The Sleuth thinks there’s nothing too radical about the automaker’s 2022 compact sedan that’s scheduled to arrive next spring. The most dramatic change is the Civic’s front end with its fancier headlights and oversize air intake that appears inspired by certain Toyota models. There are also more creases that extend along the sides and around the wheel openings, plus a spoiler-like lip on the trunk lid. Honda has yet to provide specific measurements of the new Civic (images of the concept version only have been released), but it appears to be a bit bigger. There’s also no word regarding engine…

The company sells 3-D-printed plastic outlines of vehicles, approved for preparing food. The designs include mostly older vehicles and classics such as the original Ford Bronco, Porsche 356 Speedster, Pontiac Fiero, Acura Integra and the VW Beetle, to name just a few. Also available are cookie cutters of travel trailers, race courses (Laguna Seca in California and the Nürburgring in Germany) and brand logos. Each cookie cutter is about five inches long, large enough to create a decent-sized morsel. Purchase for $10…
