Audi’s compact hatchback gets two new gasoline engines for 2016, bringing the model range engine count to six: three gasoline and three diesel. The two new engines combine direct fuel injection with turbocharging: a 1.0-liter three-cylinder gasoline unit; and a 1.4-liter gasoline four-cylinder. The 1.0, the new entry-level choice for the A3 range, is Audi’s first-ever in-house three-cylinder, making 115 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque at a low 2,000 revs per minute. A survey by a U.S. national laboratory says that many people won’t consider buying an electric car until they can reliably deliver 300 miles of driving range per charge. The study, conducted by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, found that 56 percent of respondents said electric cars must have 300 miles of range before they would even consider one, reports lifestyles webmag AutosCheatSheet. As well, 53 percent of respondents would need a guarantee that they could consistently park their cars near electrical outlets at home. The images that The Spy Guy has obtained clearly show that Mazda’s upcoming hatchback wagon will be a cross between the CX-5 tall wagon and the Mazda6 sedan.
