The Spy Guy’s sneaky team recently spotted an early version of what’s destined to be the next-generation TLX sedan that’s due out early next year as a 2021 model. The blue Acura Type S concept, which recently debuted at Monterey Car Week in California, was done up in performance livery, with big wheels and brakes. It also had a longer, lower and wider body, which suggests that the next TLX might also supplant the bigger RLX four-door that has never really caught on with buyers. Word also has it that a turbocharged four-cylinder will remain as the base engine, while the TLX Type S will run with a turbocharged version of Acura’s 3.5-liter V-6. That should easily add 75-100 horsepower to the V-6’s 290-horsepower rating. Acura is expected to reveal a production-ready TLX later this year at the Los Angeles International Auto Show.
The recently revealed Acura Type S concept vehicle likely foreshadows a new TLX sedan. The Sleuth loves it, but he wonders how watered down the production version will be since reality is almost never as good as the dream. PHOTO: ACURA
