Do-it-yourself oil changes can save you money, but they sure can get messy. The most common problem is oil running down your arm when you pull out the drain plug and then dropping the drain plug in tray of dirty oil. The solution is to purchase a Drain Plug Pro from OTC Tools. Once loosened, the highly magnetized flexible end of the Drain Plug Pro locks onto the bolt from practically any angle, keeping your hands away from the oil. The plug is then removed by twisting the tool as if you were unscrewing a bolt. Once the oil pan has been emptied you simply reverse the process and tighten before refilling the crankcase with fresh oil. The product lists for $20, but online resellers including www.amazon.com usually sell it for much less. Additional product details are available from www.otctools.com.
